The Eldest
A mutt that was not wanted by her original family. A more loyal companion, nor a stronger bark, (and sneakiest at getting into the cat food) can be found.
Princess Amber Licks-A-Lot
Amber arrived at a shelter in terrible condition. My Sister-in-Law w/ Husky Rescue immediately picked her up and set about cleaning her up. Amber was matted and mud caked but she allowed the cleaning and gave may licks of understanding and thanks. Amber was a lovely girl but she needed to be out of a kennel and with a family to thrive. My brother & his wife took Amber in, but after a time they were moving into the city & realized their new life would not allow the time Amber needed. He asked if I would give her a home. Yes.
A gopher picked the wrong place & time to come up. Those are roses beside her, but this gopher has been the bane of this garden - so I will not scold her for the roses whether or not she brings me that gopher!
Amber passed early 2009 at approx 15 years of age.

The Lord of All Critters
Yes he even keeps the dogs in line.
Found by Sweetie in the middle of the night outside a warehouse in Mira Loma, CA. Sweetie was working on a project and stepped outside to take a phone call. While on the call he heard a tiny mew. He got down on his knees and tracked down the mewing. Found this guy, no bigger than the palm of his hand, covered in grease and fleas. Took him inside and gave him a bath in the sink w/ Dawn dish soap. Found a little tuna for him and brought him home.
Woke me at 5 AM to mewing. Oh, my little precious.
He continues to rule the roost today.

The Ladies came to join us
A neighbor was trying out chickens and decided they didn't like Rhode Island Reds. Asked if Sweetie would take them off their hands. We had a 10x10 dog kennel that was not being used, so we took them in. They give us eggs, it's a very fair exchange.
Another day, another friend, has Americana's they would like to get rid of. Sure, bring them over. It includes a rooster. Well, we have no use for a rooster so know that he will end up in the stew pot. That's fine, they just could not do it themselves. That night, the rooster started crowing at 3 AM, 3:30, and still at 4 AM, going strong at 5 AM. I get up at 6AM to take a shower. When done, I mosey into the kitchen and sweetie has the (now silent) rooster and is cleaning him at the kitchen sink. I ask him "have I told you lately that I love you?". No-Crow is now in the freezer.

A Husky Rescue
This girl came to us at less then one year old.
I was at the local Vet's office with Princess Amber Licks-A-Lot, Red Silky Husky Extraordinaire. Another customer asked me if I "enjoyed Huskies and realized how difficult they could be." Oh yes. "Would I be interested in another??" Tell me the story.
She had been picked up on the side of the road by a young man with no place to live. He brought her to his Brother's house and after a while, left her there. The brother & his wife were expecting a baby soon and did not have the energy for a dog, much less a Husky. The wife's Mother agreed to help by finding her a new home.
I told her that yes, I would be happy to give this girl a home. I called Sweetie and told him I was bringing someone extra home. Um, we need a fence.

Pair of Puppies need a good start
Brother and Sister of a very large litter of mutts. The entire litter needed to find homes, we took these two in Foster to help them get a good start. Do they look 25 pounds in this picture?? They were the day we brought them home at 2 months old.
At 4 months Tarken (now Bear) on the right, found his forever home.
Within 1 year Feyza (still Feyza) on the left, found her forever home. I will never forget the firsts of this girl. She celebrated them like an 8yo on her birthday. Her first time letting me know she needed, NEEDED to go outside. Her first time talking back at me.
These two were a nightmare (two puppies at once!!) and a dream at the same time. Had a blast, glad they found great homes through the National Anatolian Shepherd Rescue Network.

Another one? Yup, another one needs help.
What do you say when the local animal shelter calls you. They have had this girl for a few months and she has gone "home" only to come back again. People don't seem to understand her. You know Anatolians, will you help her??
Yes
Anatolians are not lap dogs and they don't give their love and adoration immediately which is unlike many dogs. In some ways they are like cats. You are their staff. We are now at 5 months with Pasha and just starting to find some of her personality that we did not even suspect at first. She was closed up and inside a shell until she felt she could trust us.
Now, is there a perfect, forever home out there for her? I hope so.
